The Ashland County Jr. Fair Board will once again be participating in the Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural Stock the Trailer Competition. Stock the trailer is a state wide competition whose purpose is to collect food donations for hunger shelters and food banks around Ohio. Sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America, counties that participate in the event receive $500 towards their Jr. Fair Board in addition for a chance to win other support.
4-H Clubs are invited to help with the collection process while competing for a pizza party! The winner will be the 4-H club that turns in the most pounds of non-perishable food items on August 31st from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Jr. Fair Office.
Items will also be collected outside of the contest during Fair week, September 15th-21st.
All items must NOT expire in the year 2024.
Items that will be accepted are: cases of water, canned food, pasta sauce, peanut butter, pasta and other non-perishable item.

Any club who has a member(s) who has not meet their attendance requirements (prior to fair), please contact the Extension Office.
The last poultry clinic will be held on Saturday, September 7 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Reminder: All first and second year poultry members must attend at least one poultry clinic to be eligible to show at the fair.
For clubs with a club project, use the club project judging form and turn it into the Extension Office. Emailing it to us is fine.

County Medals are decorative pins, awarded to 4-H youth in recognition of outstanding accomplishment in a particular project area. Know a 4-H member who has excelled in their project this year? Nominate them for a county award medal and tell us about it! Anyone, including the 4-H member, may make nominations to be reviewed by the 4-H Committee. The 4-H member’s success does not have to be in the show ring. Both Livestock and Still projects are eligible.
County Award medal applications are due Monday, September 30 and medals will be given out at the annual 4-H Recognition night this fall.

Jr. Fair Exhibitors may pick up their fair packets on Wednesday, September 11 from 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, September 12 4:00-7:00 PM or on Saturday, September 14 from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM.
NEW THIS YEAR:
Exhibitors and volunteers must be present to receive their fair pass wristbands. Wristbands will be put on the exhibitor/volunteer’s wrist upon pick up, so each individual must come during one of the posted times to receive their fair pass. All members of your family do not have to come at the same time.
Those families who qualify will be given a parking pass when you pick up your fair packet. The person picking up the fair packet must SIGN THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED THEIR PARKING PASS. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY PARKING PASS YOU WILL RECEIVE. So please keep your parking pass in a safe place and do not lose it. It will not be replaced.
Businesses or individuals have an opportunity to add money to a FFA/4-H member’s livestock sale price without actually buying an animal. Members will receive any funds contributed in their name in addition to the sale price of their animal. Those wishing to contribute should use the following form.

The Ashland County Farm Bureau is hosting a free dinner on Fair move in day, Saturday, September 14th in the Coliseum from 5:00pm-7:0opm. If you are not a Farm Bureau member, a donation would be appreciated.
Bring your best dressed small animal to the costume contest on Monday, September 16 at 6:00 pm (location TBA). All small animals may participate–poultry, rabbits, goats, sheep.

High School Seniors are invited to the inaugural Seeds to Success with CFAESevent hosted by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) taking place on September 23, 2024 from 9am-4pm.
As ahigh school senior, this is the perfect time to visit campus and learn more about CFAES, your academic interests, and the people who care about your future success.During the visit, there will be academic sessions (choose to explore more than one interest area), a college application workshop, information about scholarships and financial aid, and facilities tours.
Space is limited and registration is based on a first come, first served basis. You are permitted to bring one guest. Registration closes on September 15.

Exhibitors: Please take the time to look it over and familiarize yourself with project requirements and the Jr. Fair book. There have been several changes and you are expected to follow these rules and regulations.
Changes include: (this is NOT an all inclusive list–please refer to Jr. Fair Book and project requirements)
- Premiums will NOT be payed for market animal projects.
- Maximum weight limit for market hogs is now 300 lbs.
- Family Market Hog/Goat/Lamb: Families may tag a “family goat/sheep/hog(s)” for the number of exhibitors in the household. A family Hog/Goat/Lamb can be used as one of the exhibitor’s project animals should that member’s original project be unfit to show. Animals unfit to show must be verified by a licensed Veterinarian. Please refer to the project requirements of each species for more information.
- Pop up tents are only permitted on move in day, day before the show (prep day) and the day of the show. After show day, all tents must be removed.
- Scrapies tag will be the official ID for all goats and sheep. This will be the only official tag they will need. You may use registration tattoo instead of a Scrapies tag, but the tattoo must be able to be to read at fair check in and you must bring the registration papers that match the tattoo at check in.
- Any single animal must not be cross entered unless it is a multi animal project. Ex: a ewe lamb may not be entered as a ewe lamb breeding project AND a market lamb. However, a ewe lamb may be shown in the appropriate sheep breeding class and still be exhibited as a part of the flock class. The exceptions to this rule are dogs and horses who may be entered in multiple classes and pack goats who may be shown in their respective market, breeding, or pet class as well as the pack class.
- Animals MUST remain in their respective barn area. At NO TIME should animals be on the midway, in the campground, parking lot or ANYWHERE other than their immediate barn area.
- At check in, all classes become final. Animals wishing to declare Born & Raised must have appropriate fair entry and be declared for this class at check in.
- Breeding sheep will be limited to one animal per exhibitor per class.
- Animals will NOT be reweighed. The weights will be as stated for individual species and there will be no additional allowances.
- No equipment may be placed on the fair grounds until Wednesday after 5pm. NO exceptions!

The Ohio Department of Agriculture released its updated Livestock Tampering Exhibition Rules on 5/23/24. These rules should be read by every exhibitor/ parent (guardian) showing breeding &/or market livestock at any exhibition (Junior & Open), including the Ashland County Fair.
Some rules & definitions have changed- it is your responsibility to know them! If you have questions- have them answeredbeforeexhibition!
